Dominion score sheet

A Dominion score sheet only needs one count, at the very end: every Victory card you own, in your deck, hand and discard pile. Estates are 1, Duchies 3, Provinces 6, and each Curse takes 1 off. Most victory points wins.

  • 2 to 4 players
  • About 30 minutes
  • Ends when the Provinces or any 3 piles run out
  • Most victory points wins

Tabletales is free on iPhone and iPad.

This is the real Scorepad, live: Mara’s deck counted on the keypad, her Curse typed as minus. She and Dev tie, so both get the trophy; the turn count settles it at the table.

About the game

Dominion

2008 · 2 to 4 players

  • BGG #146
  • 30 min

The game that started deck-building. Everyone begins with the same ten cards, buys better ones from a shared supply and shuffles them in. The land that wins the game earns nothing while you play, so every Province you buy slows your deck down.

Year, players, time and rank from BoardGameGeek.

In Tabletales, Dominion gets its own page: how often you play it, who with, and who holds the high score. (Example numbers.)
How to play

How to play Dominion, in brief

You start Dominion with the same 10 plain cards as everyone and buy better ones as you play. The most victory points wins.

  1. Set out the supplyLay out piles of treasure (coins), victory cards (points) and 10 kinds of kingdom cards, mostly actions. Everyone shuffles 7 Coppers and 3 Estates and draws 5.
  2. Play an action, then buyPlay one action card if you like, then add up your coins and buy one card costing that much or less. It goes on your discard pile.
  3. Clean upDiscard everything you played and held, then draw 5. When your deck runs out, shuffle your discards into a new one.
  4. End when piles run outAfter the turn that empties the Province pile, or any 3 supply piles, everyone counts the victory points in all their cards.
How the count works

Only the Victory cards count.

Treasure and Action cards win you nothing at the end. When the game stops, everyone gathers every card they own and sorts out the Victory cards and Curses.

What each card is worth

EstateYou start with 3, so a starting deck is already worth 31

  1. Finish the turnThe game ends at the end of the turn in which the Province pile runs out, or in which any 3 supply piles are empty.
  2. Gather every card you ownYour draw pile, your hand and your discard pile all count, not just the deck.
  3. Count the Victory cardsEstates 1, Duchies 3, Provinces 6. Work out Gardens from the size of your whole collection.
  4. Take off the CursesEach Curse is minus 1, so a deck full of them can end below where it started.
  5. Settle a tie on turnsMost victory points wins. A tie goes to the tied player who has had fewer turns; with the same number, they share the win.
The final count, added up

Mara buys the last Province, and Dev wins.

Three players, turn order Mara, Dev, You. Mara buys the 12th and last Province, so the game ends at the end of her turn and everyone counts their cards. This is the game on the Scorepad above.

Dominion · Final count
PlayerProvinces, Duchies, Estates, CursesFinal
Mara4 Provinces, 2 Duchies, 4 Estates, 1 Curse24 + 6 + 4 - 133
Dev3 Provinces, 4 Duchies, 3 Estates18 + 12 + 333
You5 Provinces, 1 Estate (you trashed the other 2), 2 Curses30 + 1 - 229
Mara and Dev tie on 33. Mara went first and ended the game, so she has had one more turn than Dev, and Dev wins on fewer turns. You have the most Provinces, 5, and still finish third: Mara and Dev made up the gap with Duchies.

Common Dominion scoring mistakes

  • Counting only the deckCards in your hand and your discard pile count too.
  • Forgetting the CursesEach one is minus 1, and they hide easily in a big discard pile.
  • Stopping mid-turnThe game ends at the end of the turn in which the Provinces, or any 3 supply piles, run out.
  • Scoring Gardens at a flat valueEach Gardens is worth 1 point per 10 cards you own, rounded down.

Pile sizes change with the player count (8 of each Victory card with 2 players, 12 with 3 or 4; Curses 10, 20 or 30), but the card values do not. The rulebook we read shows the Estate’s 1 point only on the card itself; German Wikipedia confirms it. The 2016 second edition replaces some kingdom cards with new ones. Rules checked on 19 October 2026 against the first-edition rulebook, Wikipedia and UltraBoardGames. Dominion is a trademark of Rio Grande Games.
