How to play Swoop, in brief
In Swoop you race to play away all 19 of your cards: whatever you hold when someone goes out counts against you, and the lowest total wins.
- Deal 19 cardsUse 2 decks for 3 to 5 players, 3 for 6 to 8. Lay 4 cards face down (Mystery Cards), 4 face up on them (Board Cards), and hold 11.
- Play equal or lowerPlay one card, or several of one number, from hand or board onto the pile, equal to or lower than the last. Uncovered Mystery Cards are played blind.
- Swoop the pileFour or more of one number in a row, or a SWOOP card, clears the pile, and you go again.
- Pick up when stuckIf you can’t play, show one card and pick up the pile.
- Go outThe round ends when someone has no cards left anywhere.
Everything you still have counts against you.
The player who went out scores 0. Everyone else pays for every card they still have, wherever it sits: in hand, face up on the board, or face down underneath.
