Patchwork score sheet
How do you score Patchwork? Once, at the end, so a Patchwork score sheet needs only three lines: the buttons you have left, plus 7 if you hold the special tile, minus 2 for every empty square on your quilt. The higher score wins, and a score can go below zero.

How to play Patchwork, in brief
In this two-player game, patches cost buttons and time, and you fit them onto your quilt. Buttons count as points too; the higher score wins.
- Set upEach player takes a quilt board and 5 buttons. Lay the patches around the time board, with the neutral token just after the smallest.
- The player behind goesWhoever is behind on the time board goes, even several turns in a row. The game ends when both tokens reach the end.
- Buy a patchPay for one of the 3 patches after the neutral token and fit it on your quilt. Move the neutral token there and your time token by the patch’s time.
- Or skip aheadMove your time token just past your opponent’s, taking 1 button per space. Passing a button on the time board pays the buttons on your patches.
Buttons in hand, holes in the quilt.
Buttons are your money all game: you pay them for patches and collect them as income. Only the buttons you still hold at the end score, and every square of your quilt left empty takes 2 of them back.
What scores at the end
| What | Points |
|---|---|
| Each button you have leftYou start with 5 and earn more as income during play | 1 |
| The special tileIt goes to the first player to fill a complete 7x7 square | 7 |
| Each empty square on your quilt board | Minus 2 |
| Buttons printed on your patchesThey pay income during the game, not points at the end | 0 |
- Play out the time boardThe game ends once both time tokens have reached the last space. A token that would pass it stops there.
- Count your buttonsOnly the buttons you hold now score, 1 point each.
- Add the special tileIf you were first to fill a complete 7x7 square, add 7.
- Take 2 for each holeCount your empty squares and subtract twice that number. The higher score wins; a tie goes to whoever reached the last space of the time board first.
The special tile settles it: You win 20 to 15.
You and Mara, with both time tokens at the end of the board. You were first to fill a 7x7 square and took the special tile. This is the game on the Scorepad above.

Tabletales is a scorepad and scrapbook for game night. For Patchwork, leave it on Highest wins and type each player’s final score: buttons, plus the special tile, minus the holes. Tabletales adds it up, marks the winner and saves the game with the night.
- Holes on the keypadType each final, or type it the way you count it (21 + 7 - 8) and Tabletales adds it up. There is no multiply key, so work out the holes first.
- Below zero is fineA quilt full of holes can finish negative. The Scorepad takes it and shows it in red.
- Ties share the trophyTied players share the trophy. Patchwork gives a tie to whoever reached the end of the time board first.
