How to score Munchkin
There are no points to score in Munchkin: your level is your score. Everyone starts at level 1, and the first player to reach level 10 wins, as long as that last level comes from killing a monster. In Tabletales, pick Who won? and tap the winner, or type everyone’s final level.
- 3 to 6 players
- About 1 to 2 hours
- First to level 10
- The last level takes a kill
Tabletales is free on iPhone and iPad.
This is the real Scorepad, live, on Highest wins: each player’s final level. For the winner alone, Who won? is one tap.

A comic dungeon crawl in cards. Everyone starts at level 1, kicks open doors, fights monsters for levels and treasure, and plays curses on everyone else along the way.

How to play Munchkin, in brief
Everyone starts at level 1 and climbs by beating monsters and grabbing treasure, while playing cards to spoil each other’s fights. First to level 10 wins.
- Deal 4 and 4Deal everyone 4 Door cards (monsters, curses, races, classes) and 4 Treasure cards (mostly items). Play any race, class or items.
- Kick open the doorFlip the top Door card. A monster means a fight, and a curse hits you. No monster: fight one from your hand, or draw another Door card.
- Fight or runYour level plus items must beat the monster; ties go to it. Win: go up a level and take its treasure. Can’t win: ask for help, or roll 5 or 6 to run away.
- Keep 5 cards at mostGive your extras to the lowest-level player. Your 10th level must come from killing a monster.
Your level is your score.
You climb from level 1 by killing monsters, by selling loot and by playing the right cards, while everyone else tries to knock you back down. Keep your level where everyone can see it: counters, a die, or the sheet below.

- Kill monsters to climbEach monster you kill is worth one level, unless its card says otherwise, plus its treasure.

- Reach level 10 with a killThe first player to reach level 10 wins the moment that monster dies. The game ends there.
Jonas kills his way to level 10.
Four players late in the game: You and Jonas on level 9, Priya on 7, Mara on 6. You hold 1,200 gold of items, but selling cannot buy the last level. On his turn Jonas kicks open the door and kills the monster behind it alone. This is the game on the Scorepad above.

- No. Items worth 1,000 gold buy a level, but selling can never buy the level that would take you to 10.
- Does the helper win too in Munchkin?
