About the game

Dutch Blitz

A real-time card game from Pennsylvania: nobody takes turns, everyone plays at once onto shared piles in the middle, racing to empty their own Blitz pile first.

In Tabletales, Dutch Blitz gets its own page: how often you play it, who with, and who holds the high score. (Example numbers.)
How to play

How to play Dutch Blitz, in brief

Nobody waits for a turn in Dutch Blitz: everyone plays at once. Play hands until someone reaches 75; the highest total wins.

  1. Lay out your deckShuffle your own 40-card deck. Lay out a face-up stack of 10, your Blitz pile, and 3 face-up Post piles. Hold the rest face down.
  2. Play all at onceAny 1 starts a shared Dutch pile; anyone adds the next number in its color. Build your Post piles down, switching boy (red, blue) and girl (yellow, green) cards; fill an empty one from your Blitz pile.
  3. Flip three when stuckTurn 3 cards from your hand face up onto your Wood pile; its top card is playable. When your hand runs out, flip the Wood pile over and go again.
  4. Call BlitzThe hand stops when someone empties their Blitz pile and calls “Blitz!”
How a hand scores

Cards in the middle count for you. Your Blitz pile counts against you.

Everyone scores the hand at once, from two counts: their own cards in the Dutch piles, and the cards left in their Blitz pile.

  1. Stop at BlitzA hand ends when a player plays the last card from their Blitz pile and calls Blitz.
  2. Count your Dutch pile cardsGather the piles from the middle, sort them by the picture on the backs, and count your own: 1 point each.
  3. Take off your Blitz pileCount what is left in your Blitz pile and subtract 2 points for each card.
  4. Play to 75Add the hand to your total, which can drop below zero. The game ends after the hand in which someone reaches 75. If more than one player passes it, the highest total wins.
One hand, added up

Hand 7: two players pass 75, and the higher total wins.

Going in: Mara 68, Priya 67, You 52, Dev 31. Priya empties her Blitz pile and calls Blitz, but Mara has more cards in the middle. This is hand 7 on the Scorepad above.

  • Giving the hand to whoever called BlitzCalling Blitz stops play, but a player with more cards in the middle can still outscore the caller.
  • Crowning the first past 75If more than one player passes 75 in the same hand, the highest total wins.

We could not read the publisher’s own rules, so these come from UltraBoardGames and Wikipedia, which agree. Two players often lay out four or five Post piles instead of three, and expansion packs seat up to 8. No source covers an exact tie at the top: the Scorepad gives both players the trophy, and your table can settle it. Rules checked on 19 October 2026 against UltraBoardGames and Wikipedia.
