How to play Five Crowns, in brief
Five Crowns runs 11 rounds with its own five-suit deck. Cards you can’t fit into books and runs count against you, and the lowest total wins.
- Deal 3, then one moreShuffle both decks together. Deal 3 cards each in round 1, one more each round, 13 in round 11. That number is wild for the round; jokers always are.
- Draw one, discard oneTake the top card of the draw pile or discard pile, then discard one.
- Go outKeep your cards in hand until you can lay them all down in books (3 or more of one value) and runs (3 or more in a row in one suit), plus one discard. Then everyone else gets one last turn.
- Count upCount what is left in your hand. After round 11, the lowest total wins.
Every card you are left holding counts against you.
Cards you lay down in books and runs score nothing. Only what is still in your hand when the round ends is counted, card by card, at the values below.
