About the game

Euchre

4 players

A quick partnership trick-taking game with a short deck, where the side that picks trump must win at least 3 of the 5 tricks and the first side to 10 points wins.

Euchre on BoardGameGeek.

In Tabletales, Euchre gets its own page: how often you play it and who you play it with. (Example numbers.)
How to play

How to play Euchre, in brief

You and the player opposite team up in Euchre. Each hand, one team names trump, the suit that beats all others, and must take at least 3 of 5 tricks.

  1. DealDeal 5 each from a 24-card deck (9s to aces) and turn up the next card.
  2. Choose trumpGoing left, each player passes or accepts the turned card’s suit; if anyone accepts, the dealer picks the card up and discards one. If all pass, each may name another suit.
  3. Play 5 tricksA trick is one card from each player; follow the suit led if you can. The highest trump wins, or else the highest card of that suit. The jack of trump is highest, then the other jack of its color, a trump too.
  4. Deal againThe deal passes left until a team reaches 10.
How a hand scores

The makers need three tricks. Anything less is a euchre.

The side that names trump are the makers. They score only by taking at least 3 of the 5 tricks, and the defenders score only by stopping them. So after every hand, exactly one side writes something down.
