How to play Casino, in brief
In Casino you capture table cards by matching them, or by adding them up to the card you play. Captures score; the first to 21 wins.
- Deal 4 and 4Deal 4 cards each and 4 face up to the table. When hands run out, deal 4 more each until the pack is gone.
- CapturePlay a card to take table cards of the same rank, or cards that add up to it. Aces count 1; a picture card only takes its match.
- Or build, or trailTo build, add your card to table cards and call the total; you must hold a card of that value to take it. To trail, just lay a card on the table.
- Clear up and countThe last to capture takes what’s left. Count the scoring cards; play rounds until someone reaches 21.
Eleven points are up for grabs. Count who took them.
Points in Casino come from the cards you captured, counted once the pack runs out. A round hands out 11 points in all (fewer if a count is tied), so the round’s scores make a handy check.

Tables differ: Wikipedia’s classic English rules always count sweeps and play to 11, and some tables play to 50 or give 2 for most cards and 1 for the last capture. In Royal Casino the picture cards count 11, 12 and 13 when you build and capture, with the same scoring; in Spade Casino every spade scores 1 and the jack of spades 2. Rules checked on 19 October 2026 against Pagat and Wikipedia.
