Wizard card game score sheet
A Wizard card game score sheet needs two things per player each round: the bid and the score. Call your tricks exactly and you score 20 plus 10 for every trick. Miss by any amount and you lose 10 for each trick you were off. The highest total after the last round wins.
- 3 to 6 players
- A deck plus 4 Wizards and 4 Jesters
- 10 to 20 rounds, the deck dealt out
- Highest total wins

A trick-taking game played with 52 cards in four suits plus four Wizards and four Jesters. Each round deals one more card than the last, and the only way to score is to call exactly how many tricks you will take.

How to play Wizard, in brief
Winning tricks is not the point in Wizard: calling the exact number you will win is. The deck is four suits of 1 to 13, plus 4 Wizards and 4 Jesters.
- Deal one more card each roundRound 1 deals 1 card each, round 2 deals 2, and so on. The next card, turned up, sets trump, the suit that beats the others.
- Call your tricksA trick is one card each. From the dealer’s left, everyone says how many tricks they will take.
- Play the tricksFollow suit if you can. The first Wizard played wins; otherwise the highest trump, or the highest card of the suit led. Jesters almost always lose. Wizards and Jesters can be played any time.
- Score, then deal againScore each call against the tricks taken. The game ends after the round that deals out the whole deck.
You score for being right, not for winning tricks.
A correct call scores and a wrong one costs, however many tricks you actually won. Under the basic rules the calls can add up to anything.
What a round is worth
| Result | Points |
|---|---|
| You made your bidBid 2, took 2: 20 + 10 + 10 is 40 | 20 + 10 a trick |
| You bid 0 and took 0Still a correct bid, so the 20 counts | 20 |
| You missed your bidOver or under, it is the same: bid 4, took 2 is minus 20 | Minus 10 a trick off |
| Tricks on a missed bid | 0 |
- Deal one more card each roundRound 1 deals 1 card each, round 2 deals 2, and so on until the 60 cards run out: 20 rounds for 3 players, 15 for 4, 12 for 5 and 10 for 6.
- Write down every bidEach player calls how many tricks they will take before the first lead. Your score sheet needs the bid; the round’s score depends on it.
- Score each playerMade it: 20, plus 10 for each trick. Missed: minus 10 for every trick over or under, and nothing for the tricks you took.
- Keep a running totalAdd each round to your total. A run of missed bids can take a total below zero, and that is fine: keep adding.
- Highest total winsAfter the last round the highest total wins. If players tie, they all win.
Round 15: Anya calls 5, takes 5, and wins.
The last round for four players: 15 cards each. Mara leads Anya by 50 going in, then takes one trick too many. Anya makes a bid of 5. This is round 15 on the Scorepad above.
| Player | Bid against tricks | Round |

- A row for every roundLeave the game on Highest wins and switch to By hand for a row each round: 15 rows for four players, 20 for three. The Scorepad keeps scores, not bids, so call the bids aloud or jot them down.
- Type it the way you count itType each score, or type it the way you count it: a made bid of 5 is 20 + 50, and Tabletales adds it up. Two tricks off is minus 20: tap - and type 20, and it shows in red.
- Ties share the trophyTied players share the trophy. Wizard has no tiebreak.

Common Wizard scoring mistakes
- Paying for tricks on a missed bidA miss scores only the penalty, minus 10 for each trick off. The tricks you took count for nothing.
- Scoring a correct 0 as 0Bidding 0 and taking 0 is a made bid, so it earns the 20.
- Playing the wrong number of roundsThe game lasts until the deck is dealt out: 60 cards divided by the players, so 20, 15, 12 or 10 rounds.
- Breaking a tieThere is no tiebreak. Tied players share the win.

House rules vary: Amigo’s plus or minus one rule says the bids in a round may not add up to the tricks available, and some tables hide the bids until everyone has called, or write them down and reveal them after the round. Rules checked on 19 October 2026 against Amigo’s rules, Wikipedia and UltraBoardGames. Wizard is published by U.S. Games Systems and Amigo. Tabletales is not affiliated with either.
